MIKELANGELO is a project, targeted to disrupt the core underlying technologies of Cloud computing, enabling even bigger uptake of Cloud computing, in particular, HPC in the Cloud and Big Data technologies under one umbrella.

Layers in the current Cloud architecture unnecessarily add to the complexity of Cloud systems, hampering its efficiency from responsiveness and reliability aspects, and security in multi-tenant environments. Other components, such as virtualized I/O also haven’t been addressed appropriately in terms of optimization in the past. Finally, there are problems in management of virtualized environments that currently don’t allow for flexible and unified use of diverse resources. This brings us to the vision of MIKELANGELO project: improving responsiveness, agility and security of the virtual infrastructure through packaged applications - virtual appliances.

XLAB’s role

MIKELANGELO project is coordinated by XLAB in cooperation with all consortium partners in compliance with the preset objectives. Key technical tasks for XLAB are the application packaging, further simplifying generation of virtual appliances, management of Cloud stacks, integrating the MIKELANGELO stack into common Cloud management stacks like OpenStack and/or OpenNebula, and use case implementation, providing a crucial technical analysis , implementation and integration of various layers of MIKELANGELO. XLAB will also act as an SME stakeholder in exploitation and partly dissemination of the MIKELANGELO’s outputs.
