In flood areas, lives can be saved and material damage reduced by triggering flood alarms and urgent actions when needed. These decisions are currently based on the stream discharge and stage data provided by the Environmental Agency of Slovenia as well as past experience in each specific flood area. The project strives to improve the decision support by developing flood visualization tools based on the real-time Environmental Agency data.
The discharge data will be integrated with the landscape geometry. Furthermore, water levels and flooding scenarios will be pre-calculated for various discharge values. Apart from displaying the predicted flooding scenarios, the visualization tool will include other data necessary in the case of urgency, such as past flood data and particularly vulnerable locations, e.g., schools and hospitals.
