QBIQ focuses on developing new algorithms, codes and advanced tools to tackle binary quadratic optimization problems (QBO), which are among the most challenging computational problems in IT. These problems involve finding the best possible solutions for scenarios with both linear and quadratic constraints, and due to their NP-hard nature, they can only be solved for small to medium-sized instances.
The project aims to create a cutting-edge solver, QBIQ, featuring three components:
By leveraging Europe’s top supercomputers and quantum computing resources, alongside the best parallel computing libraries, QBIQ will deliver provably optimal solutions while pushing the boundaries of quantum and classical computing integration.
Why it matters:
Optimization problems lie at the heart of industries like logistics, finance, and energy, where even small efficiency gains can have massive impacts. QBIQ’s solvers will provide researchers and businesses with powerful tools to solve these challenges, driving innovation and improving decision-making worldwide.
XLAB leads pilot implementation and testing, ensuring that the QBIQ solvers are practical, reliable, and ready for real-world applications.
