Encouraging Cyber Defense Awareness in the Balkans

17-19th March, Skopje, Macedonia

An Advanced Research Workshop to boost awareness level in the field of cyber security on the Balkans has been organized by the Bulgarian Euro-Atlantic Youth Club and the Macedonian Research Centre for Security Defence and Peace.

Supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security programme and participants coming from the Balkans, Baltics and Turkey the programme aims to develop competences in the field of cyber security, draw attention to the importance of Critical Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) in individual countries and cope with the challenges of modern ‘Hybrid War’.

XLAB (Aleš Černivec as speaker) offers expertise on how to mitigate cyber threats within the module Human Factor Challenges for Social Engineering and Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). Further XLAB’s projects dealing with privacy-related issues: 

  • identity management and federation security services within Contrail project (resulting in privacy-conscious file-usage and sharing solution – spinoff Koofr) 
  • detecting malicious activities on mobile devices within operator’s and enterprise networks – ACDC project (resulting in the ICT Privacy and Security awarded Device Monitor application) 
  • Ensuring adequate level of privacy in health and finance-related services within the Horizon 2020 WITDOM project
