27 March 2018 marked the final review of the DICE H2020 project, a 3-year project that started on 1 February 2015 and ended on 31 January 2018. Positive reviewers’ reports pointed out the importance of this investment.
The DICE consortium of 9 partners built a toolset and a methodology, which helps IT departments apply model-driven approach to designing, developing, testing and improving quality Big Data applications. The toolset is ready for agile DevOps teams, because it helps both the design part and the runtime part of the development lifecycle. And we are all open source with our tools available on the GitHub.
XLAB’s contribution to the project includes the DICE Deployment Service, which is the OASIS TOSCA DevOps tool powered by the Cloudify cloud application orchestrator. By using our DICE TOSCA technology library, it is easy to create blueprints to applications that leverage technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Cassandra and others. These blueprints are then automatically deployed on OpenStack, AWS or FCO without needing to change a single line of code.
Beyond the project, two jointly created products live on - DICE Velocity will help developers in the design of stream processing applications, revolving around Spark technology, and DICE BatchPro helps quickly design and deploy batch applications that use Storm.
